Hello, my name is Austin Futty. I am a freshman at Cape Henlopen High School and the Freshman Officer at my school's DECA chapter. DECA is a business-oriented extracurricular organization that has chapters in 3,775 high schools across the USA, and even seven chapters from other countries. It allows students to compete with one another as we study the business world. Hundreds of students get the opportunity to obtain scholarships for their college careers, build social networks, see new locations, and many other opportunities.
I practiced throughout the beginning of the year for my competition, Principles Of Marketing. It involves a 100 question exam which I take over the course of an hour as well as a role-play event. I am given a scenario that is likely to occur in the business world. I then have ten minutes to take notes and construct an outline of how I will deal with my given situation. I then meet with the judges who will play the part of another person in the scenario, such as a potential customer. I competed in Delaware's state competitions and was awarded first place in the Principles Of Marketing event. Now, I am studying for our international competitions which are in Nashville, Tennessee. The competition dates are from April 29th to May 3rd. The price for travel, room, board, and activities is $2,000 per person, which my school is unable to supply. In addition to this Go-Fund-Me, I am also asking many local businesses in my area to sponsor me and am setting up many chapter-wide fundraisers to help others who may be having the same issues.
