Austen has been a wheelchair user for several years now, due to various chronic medical conditions, and his original wheelchair has become worn out in the service of attending medical school - but also lately, his physical needs have changed as some of these conditions got worse - in particular his Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which causes joint dislocations and tissue strain.
In order for him to continue to move about safely in future, he needs a better fitted and more supportive wheelchair than the one that has served him so well for these last few years.
Since wheelchairs are a huge outlay, he needs to futureproof this purchase with a wheelchair that'll last him a long time, and meet possible increased future physical support needs. The new wheelchair is a TiLite TRA titanium rigid frame chair (as light as possible whilst staying robust), better fitted to his current anatomy and physical needs, with a more supportive seat cushion and a much better rigid backrest than his current chair has, both of which will help prevent dislocations and support him through long days at work. The new chair will not only support him better physically - it’s also more compact and with a narrower foot rest, so way more manoeuvreable.
We have applied for a number of grants towards this new chair, and have some of the money needed towards it now, but still need to raise the balance. Please could you donate to and/or share this fundraiser to help him achieve this goal, many thanks!
