Help Audrey get a seizure alert dog

Our youngest daughter, Audrey, is 10 years old and is a very independent, lively and fun-loving girl. About 3 years ago, Audrey started having grand mal seizures. She generally has a seizure about once a week, but sometimes she will have several in a day. Each time she has a seizure, it takes about an hour for her to regain consciousness, and she’s usually exhausted for most of the day. This takes a huge toll on her and the rest of our family including siblings Brooke (14) and Evan (12) who assist in caring for her.
Over the last 3 years, we have tried everything for her—several different medications, a keto diet, and natural/homeopathic remedies. Nothing has worked. We are now working with a great team at UCSF. Audrey’s genetic testing revealed that she has a genetic mutation consistent with Dravet Syndrome, which unfortunately can be a very drug-resistant form of epilepsy. We are now about to start an experimental drug and are hopeful it will help her.
In the meantime, as Audrey is growing up and becoming more independent, we are constantly worried that she will have a seizure when she’s alone, which can be very dangerous—even fatal. Seizure alert dogs go through an intense training process that enables them to detect an oncoming seizure up to an hour ahead of time. They are also trained to alert for help, and even to help care for and protect the seizure patient during a seizure, such as by rolling them onto their side.
A seizure alert dog would allow Audrey to maintain her independence, while granting us incredible peace of mind that she would be safe and protected in the event of a seizure. Due to the extensive training the dogs must undergo, they are very expensive. We would be so grateful for your financial support to enable us to add this valuable member to our family!
