Help At-Risk Young Adults and Dogs!

Tax deductible

Teacher's Pet has partnered with Covenant House and Detroit Animal Care and Control for a modified program that provides real-world job skills for youth in the program at Covenant House. Covenant House is a homeless shelter in Detroit that houses youth 18-24 years old. Part of the criteria for residing at Covenant House is having a job....Teacher's Pet provides that opportunity with programming at DACC. The youth in the program (we are working our way up to 10 youth) work 8 hours a week for nominal pay. They clean kennels, provide enrichment, walk dogs, train using positive force free methods and learn about dog behavior and training. The youth have already begun working with the dogs and have been invaluable to the shelter staff and painting and getting the training room ready. We'd love to expand the program and number of dogs whose lives we can enrich! Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated! You are helping these at-risk young adults save the lives of shelter dogs!
