Recovering from Brain Surgery

Ashley Alvarez is a young, independent woman with a Master's degree in Political Science. She is active and at the prime of her life. She enjoys surfing, free diving, hiking, fishing, and spending time with her friends and family. Ashley is an animal lover and environmental and human rights activist who always tries to help others.
A few weeks ago my best friend was found unconscious in her house with a serious head wound and concussion. She lost a lot of blood and was rushed to the hospital where they put 11 staples to close the wound.
After multiple CT scans and an MRI, it was determined that she had a seizure and doctors gave her devastating news, they found a brain tumor. The tumor was the cause of the seizure and therefore she needed immediate costly surgery to remove everything and to avoid further complications including more seizures, brain swelling or worse.
This has been really traumatic for Ashley and insurance won’t be able to cover all the costs so we made this fund to help ease some of her medical and living expenses. I am happy to say Ashley is doing well after surgery on 3/12/19 at UCSF. She has been released from ICU and is beginning her recovery at home. The surgery alone was over 300K, and for the next few months Ashley is unable to work to earn any income, drive, or do any of the hobbies that she enjoys. We are awaiting the pathology results of the tumor and are praying it’s stage 1 so there will be more follow up tests to come and rehabilitation.
