Help Asha (Ashly) Bastis See

Give the gift of eyesight to Asha (Ashly) and her daughter.  Help change both of their lives.

A few years ago, if you told Asha that there was a pair of glasses that could help Asha see clearly, she would not have believed you.  But without help, Asha can only dream of being able to conquer her goals.

Asha (Ashly) Bastis is a legally blind young woman who is also a single mother to a seven year old daughter.  Her daughter is an amazing, spunky little girl who is Asha’s entire world.  Asha has been legally blind since birth due to Toxoplasmosis of the eye.  She was born with permanent holes in her retinas which make life incredibly difficult to lead as an independent adult, but even more difficult as a single mother, as you may imagine.

Asha has never lead the “typical” life of a legally blind individual.  She has a love and great talent for art, has a love of the outdoors such as walking trails with her daughter, loves photographing scenery and her daughter, and travels back and forth across the country with her daughter to visit family on a regular basis.

She leads a weekly art therapy group through a community outreach organization that helps the homeless.  Once a month she hosts a “women’s goal support group”.   Asha’s zest for life has never held her back but her eyesight is now holding her back.

Asha has graduated with an Associate’s degree and is presently working towards completing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.  She has had plans to enter a clinical counseling Master’s program after she completes her Bachelor’s degree.  She has a deep love for helping others through their healing processes, and rediscovering what brings them happiness.  Her dream is to eventually have a private practice that offers a range of therapies for individuals and couples, which would also allow her to provide a bright, successful future for her beautiful daughter.

But the dream of completing her Bachelor’s degree and moving onto a Master’s degree has come to a halt.  The accommodations that are available will not meet the demands of her major so she is faced with either discontinuing her education or investing in a life changing set of eSight glasses that will allow her to continue her studies and accomplish so many of her goals.

The eSight technology has been developed recently.  It is a pair of electronic glasses which gives visually impaired people the ability to see.  Asha would finally be able to conquer her struggles with school.  She would no longer have to rely on note takers, electronic readers, and enlarged documents.  She wouldn’t need sighted persons to interpret the required visual aspect of learning.  For the first time she would be able to sit in a classroom and see across the room at the material that is being discussed.  She would be able to see up close without eye strain, and keep up with sighted peers.  It would help her excel as a student and become more employable as a professor’s research team, internships, volunteer opportunities and eventually employment.

Asha would be able to do what most parents take for granted like watch her daughter in swimming lessons, keep an eye on her as she plays at the playground, watch her in school functions and simply watch a movie with her daughter instead of just listening to the movie.  These everyday things are normally taken for granted, but can only be a dream in Asha’s present situation….but with the eSight glasses they are in reach.

If the glasses work as expected, the full cost of the glasses will be $9,995.00.  As you can see, she needs help with the cost of this life changing purchase.

Any amount that can be donated is greatly appreciated by Asha and her family and will help change her life, but also the life of her daughter.  At this time, Asha is preparing to train with a guide dog.  With these glasses, she may not need a guide dog in the future.  What a life changing gift this would be to her as well.
