A little bit about us

Alpaca Acres is a small family run farm nestled in the heart of the Essex countryside.

My name is Dawn and I run the farm with my daughter in law Paige by my side everyday. Most days can be a struggle for me one way or another, even basic activities can be a challenge and Paige has literally become “my legs” following a serious accident I had in December 2020.

She and my son knew what a passion and vision I had to build my farm and weren’t about to let my hopes and dream slip away because of my accident. So between us all Alpaca Acres was born and finally opened in August 2022.

The passion for my animals is second to nothing and I owe so much to these wonderful creatures that have given me purpose and the will to carry on throughout all my struggles.

Mental Health is at the forefront of everything we achieve here at Alpaca Acres. As a family that has come to find mental health and learning difficulties at the heart of our lives I truly believe animals have so much to give in relation to being completely non judgmental and calming.

My vision here is to run a farm that only has one family/group on farm during a session so that we can adapt to our family/group needs and spend “hands on” quality time with each and all of you !

We welcome just as many “regular families” here that equally thoroughly enjoy time out with the animals and quality family time at an affordable price.

Unfortunately last night as a result of the extreme high winds we lost our emperor tent that we funded with all the “Paca Picnic” we fulfilled last summer. This was so important as it allowed us to continue the very important work we do here through the wetter, colder months and we knew this was essential to many of our regular visitors.

We are absolutely devastated this morning and have decided the only way we might be able to regain the use of a shelter is to ask the many of you that may have already come to visit us or have yet still to come to donate as little or as much as you are able… to enable us to secure another structure as soon as we possibly can. Our work is SO IMPORTANT we are proud to serve the NHS, Women Refuge and young adult day centres to name a few which without any shelter we would struggle to deliver our sessions.
