<div>Last Friday December 20, shortly before sunrise, a Russian ballistic missile hit the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. 13 people were injured, 1 person killed through the impact of the blast that shattered windows and tore out heaters in the surrounding buildings.

<div>My friend Anton and his family live in one of the buildings. While they were not physically harmed, the blast destroyed most of the windows in their apartment, leaving their home exposed to the harsh Ukrainian winter.

<div>Thanks to a local NGO, the window openings have been temporarily covered with wood panels, but this is not a sustainable solution. We’re raising funds to help Anton and his family replace the windows and restore their home. Every donation, big or small, will go directly towards buying materials and covering repair costs.

<div>Anton is a fellow architecture student of mine in Aachen, Germany. When Russia launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, he was visiting his family. Because he is considered of “fighting age”, he has not been able to leave Ukraine since and he is currently completing his Master’s of architecture online with the support of professors and assistants at RWTH Aachen.

<div>At the moment, Anton lives in the apartment, with his parents who are retired, and his older brother who has lived with disabilities since early childhood and is in need of intensive care and monitoring 24/7.

<div>Your donation would go directly towards the repair and replacement of damage to the windows. The repair of their window frames is estimated to cost at least 15,000 €. However, the overall cost of repairs, including window casements and broken doors is likely to be higher. Any amount that goes beyond the donation target will be used to ensure the much needed support and stability for Anton’s family.

<div>Am vergangenen Freitag, dem 20. Dezember, kurz vor Sonnenaufgang, schlug eine russische Rakete im Kiewer Stadtteil Holosiivskyi ein. 13 Menschen wurden verletzt, eine Person kam durch die Wucht der Explosion ums Leben, wodurch Fenster zerbrachen und Heizungen in den umliegenden Gebäuden herausgerissen wurden.

<div>Mein Freund Anton und seine Familie leben in einem der Gebäude. Sie wurden zwar nicht körperlich verletzt, aber die Explosion zerstörte die meisten Fenster in ihrer Wohnung, so dass ihr Haus dem harten ukrainischen Winter ausgesetzt wurde.

<div>Dank einer örtlichen gemeinnützigen Organisation konnten die Fensteröffnungen vorübergehend mit OSB-Holzplatten abgedeckt werden, aber das ist keine dauerhafte Lösung. Wir sammeln Spenden, um Anton und seiner Familie zu helfen, die Fenster zu ersetzen und ihr Zuhause wieder in Schuss zu bringen. Jede Spende, ob groß oder klein, wird direkt für den Kauf von Material und die Deckung der Reparaturkosten verwendet.

<div>Anton studiert mit mir an der RWTH Aachen Architektur. Als Russland im Februar 2022 die groß angelegte Offensive gegen die Ukraine begann, war er zu Besuch bei seiner Familie. Weil er als „kampffähig“ gilt, konnte er die Ukraine seitdem nicht mehr verlassen und absolviert zurzeit mit Unterstützung von Professor:innen und Assistent:innen der RWTH Aachen online seinen Master in Architektur.

<div>Derzeit lebt Anton zusammen mit seinen Eltern, die im Ruhestand sind, und seinem älteren Bruder in der Wohnung, der seit seiner Kindheit mit Behinderungen lebt und rund um die Uhr intensiv medizinisch betreut und überwacht werden muss.

<div>Eure Spende fließt direkt in die Reparatur und den Ersatz der beschädigten Fenster. Die Kosten für die Reparatur der Fensterrahmen werden auf mindestens 15.000 € geschätzt, die Gesamtkosten für die Reparatur, einschließlich der Fensterflügel und der kaputten Türen, dürften jedoch höher ausfallen. Jeder Betrag, der über das Spendenziel hinausgeht, wird verwendet, um die dringend benötigte Unterstützung und Stabilität für Antons Familie zu gewährleisten.
