Help Antonio Get a Medical Safe Bed for his ASD
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Aileen and I funding for my Autistic son Antonio to help get him a medical safety bed.
Unfortunately with my insurance not providing any coverage and the months of waiting for him to become possibly eligible with OPWDD is not allowing to get him what we need with the price of this safety bed. His quality of sleep is severely declining due to his dx leaving us to look for help from the community.
Antonio is a six year old male with a primary diagnosis of Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), and Insomnia, formerly diagnosed in 2022. Antonio has relevant past medical history. His primary areas of delay include non-verbal communication disorder. He requires 1:1 support around the clock supervision, including 12 hours or more of supervision overnight. This is due to his diagnosis and behaviors in bed including insomnia, high irritation and aggressive behavior due to the inability to sleep, or to remain asleep during nighttime hours. He has had numerous encounters where he is combative or will inflict self-harm such as biting or scratching, grabbing and hitting. Antonio has to be medicated to eliminate overstimulation and irritability.
Antonio is non-verbal, he demonstrates difficulty attending to tasks, using functional communication skills consistently expressing his wants or needs with those in his environment.
He requires twelve hours of supervision at night due to safety, elopement, or wandering. The irritability is due to lack of sleep despite trials that include but are not limited to, medication Clonidine HCL 0.1 MG at bedtime, mattress on the floor, weighted support compression vest, weighted blanket, white noise sounds, baby monitor, bed rails, tv playing music covered with a blanket to eliminate light or a parent co sleeping with child. These options were not appropriate as they failed to prevent Antonio from exiting his bed. Despite those interventions he would still climb or become aggressive with co sleeper and was put in danger in attempts to climb over bed rail. The limited amount of time allowed for weighted compression vest and medication does not keep him sleep through the mom night.
The Cubby Bed is the only available safety bed that offers features that are medically necessary to meet the unique needs of Antonio in order to optimize his sleep hygiene and maximize safety to reduce risk of injury and self-harm. The Cubby bed eliminates the 7- zones of entrapment identified by the FDA. I am only looking to get him the basic model that provides all the safety features he needs.
Anything will be appreciated and will definitely help.
Thank you for taking to time to read his story.
