Antonella, is a 3 years old Venezuelan girl, suffering Leukemia. She is the only daughter of one my closest friends Antonio y Zeudy. Less than a week ago she was diagnosed with cancer.
She was born on 2013 perfectly healthy and enjoyed a life full of love and support, surrounded by her parents and family. But a few days ago she started feeling weaker and weaker, she developed an ear infection, reason why her parents took some tests and realized something was wrong.
Antonella and her parents lives in Caracas, where healthcare is in a precarious condition. Public hospitals lack the essential materials to assist their patients, basics such as oxygen, gauze or alcohol are not available. Clean and sterilized spaces to treat patients are not part of their priorities. Private hospitals are very expensive for regular Venezuelan families, where average monthly income is less than a 1% of what they need to pay for the first phase of Antonella’s treatment. Medicine status is dramatic, nowdays we cannot find meds at pharmacies as the rest of the world do, we spread the word out and wait for a caring soul who have that medicine and is willing to give it to us, or we need to know someone with health connexion who might help. Is not easy at all.
Our first goal is to deliver the first phase of quimio in Caracas, and strengthen her body to take her to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami where she will receive all the medical attention she needs. Antonio and Zeudy, are trying to find support from Ronald McDonald House Charity to pay for the treatment needed.
We are running out of precious time with this child, after the first phase in Caracas she needs to go to Miami to continue with her treatment. This will obviously cost a ridiculous amount of money, money we unfortunately don't have enough. Just for the first quimio phase here in Caracas we need to raise $4,000 to be paid by June 8th on top of that the flights and living cost for three months in Miami, for one of her parents and her is an additional $3,000.
Every day count, every single penny is worthy! We need to give her an opportunity to live. We cannot just let Antonella die when there is something that might help her. She deserve a chance and she deserve a life as much as anyone else.
If Antonella receives this treatment and it does work, she will return to the happy life she had, full of health, smiles, joy, experiences and life.
