Hi, my name is Jocelyn Carter, and I’m fundraising on behalf of my aunt, Antoinette King-Brathwaite. She has always been the one who is there for others — the steady rock of our family. But now she urgently needs our support as she faces her own battle with colon cancer while also caring for her two young grandchildren.

In the spring of 2024, my aunt Antoinette traveled from Barbados to Ontario, Canada, to support her daughter, Cristal, who was courageously battling colon cancer while raising two minor children alone. Adding to the family’s struggle, one of Cristal’s children was also fighting medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer.

Tragically, in the summer of 2024, Cristal lost her battle. In the midst of grief, Antoinette stepped in without hesitation, taking on the enormous responsibility of raising her grandchildren — one of whom continues to fight brain cancer — and providing them with love, care, and stability during an unimaginably difficult time.

Now, in August 2025, life has taken another heartbreaking turn. Antoinette herself has been diagnosed with colon cancer that requires immediate treatment. Since her diagnosis, life has been filled with hospital visits, medical tests, and procedures. While doctors are giving us hope, the medical bills, treatment costs, and household expenses have become overwhelming quickly. Without insurance, the out-of-pocket costs are more than the family can manage alone.
