My name is Ansuom Geraldino, a recent first-generation Dominican college graduate from LIU Brooklyn.
I am currently planning to attend Hult International Business School for their Master's Program that begins in September 2020.
My mom always told me that her dream was to see me graduate and become successful. Luckily she was there when I walked across the Barclays Center stage last May.
Unfortunately, she passed away after six grueling months fighting internal organ failure on November 16th. My family and I were left devastated.
Instead of working after graduation, I began taking care of my mother as she fell ill in the hospital. I was unable to work because I stayed with my mom every day in the hospital for the entire second half of 2019.
We cobbled together everything we knew we needed to send her off how she deserved, which thankfully went as planned. This made gathering the money for the seat securement difficult, as I have to pay a deposit before I can apply for Financial Aid.
As the deadline of January 20th is approaching, I decided to ask for help. I know nothing will make her happier than to see me obtaining my masters when she looks down on me from Heaven.
I do not want the sacrifices she made for me to build a better life to have been in vain.
