Single Mom of 2 Fighting to Stay in School – Help Me Cross the Finish Line for My MBA
Hi everyone,
My name is Anjanae Rabb, and I’m a single mom of two amazing kids — a bright 9-year-old daughter and a playful 1-year-old son. I’m just weeks away from graduating with my MBA in Construction Management from Lamar University. My official graduation date is May 17, 2025 — but I’ve hit an unexpected financial roadblock that could stop me from walking across that stage.
I’m reaching out for help to overcome this last hurdle and finish what I started — not just for me, but for my children.
*Why This Matters So Much*
This is my second master’s degree, and I’ve worked incredibly hard to get to this point. I chose this path so I can provide my kids with the life they deserve — more stability, more opportunity, and a strong role model who never gave up.
My goal is to build a career in project management and construction leadership, and I’m just one step away from making that a reality. But right now, my dream is on the line.
*What Happened*
In Summer 2024, Lamar University awarded me financial aid, which I used to register and pay for my classes. I completed the term believing everything was taken care of. Then, months later on November 11, 2024, the university reversed that aid, leaving me with a $5,800 balance.
Worse, the timing of the reversal violated federal financial aid regulations — schools are required to act within a specific timeframe so students still have options like applying for Grad PLUS loans or paying out of pocket. Lamar University did not act in time, and by the time they took back the aid, I had no way to make up the difference.
To help, they applied my Spring 2025 aid toward the summer balance, which lowered it — but I was still left with $978 due. I applied for a Grad PLUS loan to cover the remainder but was denied due to credit. Now, the school has given me a firm deadline: May 1, 2025 to pay this balance — or I won’t be able to graduate.
*Why I Need Your Help*
I’m humbly asking for $1,200 to cover the $978 balance and any related fees so I can stay enrolled and receive my degree on May 17, 2025. I’ve exhausted every other option. As a single mom balancing parenting, classes, and finances, I’ve done all I can — and now I need a little help to finish strong.
*What Your Support Means*
This isn’t just about a degree. It’s about proving to my children that we don’t give up. It’s about showing my daughter and son that even when life throws setbacks your way, you keep going. And it’s about securing a future where I can support them with confidence, stability, and pride.
If you can give, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Even $5 or $10 helps more than you know. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this with your network.
With gratitude and hope,
Anjanae Rabb
