<div>Angela contracted Covid-19 at the end of last year, in December of 2021, and afterward had continuous pressure behind her left eye. It appeared to be a lasting complication from her bout with Covid. After a couple of weeks and no relief, she went to the emergency room, where she was admitted. She had numerous tests run over the course of 3 days before the doctors gave her the devastating news that she has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This diagnosis came as a big shock to Angela, her husband (Devon), and their two young boys (Alex and Matteo) and has turned their lives upside down.

<div>Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and progressive auto-immune disease that affects the central nervous system. MS causes the immune system to attack the protective covering (myelin) that is around the spinal cord and nerve fibers, which leads to permanent deterioration of the nerves. The damage to the nerves in turn causes the brain to have trouble communicating with the rest of the body. It is a long-term and very painful disease. MS progresses differently for every individual and while there are treatments available to slow the disease progression and help with the symptoms, there is no cure.

<div>Angela's health insurance, unfortunately, had not started when she was hospitalized and will not retroactively cover her medical expenses. She is still in need of medical care before her insurance coverage starts, which will just add to the massive expense of uninsured medical care. Both Angela and her husband, Devon, work hard to provide a good life for their two boys, and being unable to work during her current treatment along with extensive medical bills will be a substantial strain on their young family. With Angela's sudden hospitalization and continuing treatment, the family is left with one income for the time being. Caring for two young children is already an expensive feat, but will be astronomically harder with mounting medical and treatment expenses. Additionally, there will still be many things that insurance will not cover as the MS progresses over the years.

<div>As friends of Angela, we wanted to organize this fundraiser to alleviate some of the stress of her medical bills so that her family can focus on trying to keep her strong and not worry about finances. Angela and her family have a long road ahead of them and all funds raised will be going directly to her family, as they try to manage their expenses. Every financial gift is invaluable and even the smallest gift can make a big impact. Angela has the biggest heart and now it is our turn to give her all of our love and support.
