My name is andrea, and I am a full-time working mom and nursing student fighting to protect my two-year-old daughter, Sofia. Since her birth, I have provided for her on my own, ensuring she has a safe and loving home. Her father has not financially supported us since Sofia was born and has often put me down throughout this process. Recently, I took the step to seek child support, and in response, he has filed for custody. This has put me in a difficult legal battle that I never expected to face alone.

 Despite reaching out to organizations like Chicago Aid and contacting multiple law firms for pro bono help, I have not been able to secure legal representation. I have been representing myself in court since May 2025, with our next court date set for October 28th. The legal process is overwhelming, and the costs for a lawyer and court filings are more than I can manage while supporting Sofia and working toward my nursing degree. Legal procedures can extend for a year or more, which means the financial need may be ongoing. My friends and family have offered emotional support, but I am handling the financial and legal burden by myself.
