Help and Hope for Tricia and Ashley

Donation protected
Some of you may or may not know on July 3rd, 2017, my daughter Ashley’s partner, Tricia, was involved in an ATV accident that has thrown a curveball in the trajectory of her life.  Tricia suffered a severe spinal cord injury as a result of this accident.  Thanks to the efforts of my son, Joseph, who was able to pull the ATV off of Tricia and call 911 immediately; she was air lifted to Shands in Gainesville, Florida.

Tricia is alive and moving forward as she recovers and looks to the future.   She underwent a 6 hour surgery to help repair her spinal cord. Thanks to the surgeon, nurses and physical therapists in the intensive care unit at Shands Hospital, Tricia will be transferred to a Rehabilitation facility within the next few weeks.

Tricia has life changing injuries and will need massive amounts of therapy for many months to come.  Ashley and Tricia both work and live in South Carolina.  The accident happened here in Florida. With all the “unknowns” as the exact location of the Rehabilitation facility this poses a huge burden on the family.  Ashley will soon have to return to her job in North Carolina and continue to work, manage their home in South Carolina while trying to serve as an outstanding caregiver, supporter and partner to  Tricia.

Tricia is 28 years old and her livelihood is based on health as the fitness and wellness assistant director at Clemson University and a recently certified health coach. This will be a new long road ahead.  Not to mention the hospital bills, therapy, rehab facilities, occupational therapist; as well as therapy for both, and traveling expenses.

To say that Tricia has been brave is no understatement.  Her first quote for her hospital white board was “Be a badass like Uma Thurman” . She has endured a painful surgery and in the future grueling physical therapy sessions.  She is facing this with a realistic and positive mindset.  She will prevail and live life with the best possible outcome.  Her positive outlook is one to be admired, Ashley has shared with me that she is determined that no matter her mobility status, nothing will be off limits to her.  At this point she has mobility in her upper body and sensory but not mobility in her lower. She will be the one to work her butt off to beat the statistics. She knows with confidence with the right tools and right people along her path she will walk again.

As you are aware, not all expenses are covered by health insurance.  This is an unintended tragic event in our family, affecting every aspect of our lives.

In order to decrease the financial burdens that will confront them, we invite you to contribute what you can to our daughters.  We humbly thank you for your generosity from all of our hearts.

After all, the bonds of affection that we all share with one another are the greatest gifts we can give.

Love, Tracy
