Help Anastasia get a fresh start!

Anastasia was born with Spina Bifida on March 31, 1990 and started her life with two major surgeries within a 72 hour period.  Her resilience was seen from day one as she demonstrated an unbelievably positive attitude throughout the trials of her childhood.

Even though some doctors suggested that she would never walk nor graduate from high school due to her paralysis and cognitive impairments,  Anastasia proved them wrong. She learned to walk with crutches and braces and not only did she graduate from High School, she also obtained two College Diplomas.  When her prospects of a career in her hometown of Ottawa seemed sparse, she made the choice to move out of her parents' home to make her future on her own in Sudbury, Ontario.

Anastasia grew up attending church where her mother, Cia Savage (nee LeFrancois),  was the musical director and she has a beautiful singing voice as well as a talent for speaking and leading.  Very much a people person, her degrees are unsurprisingly in Hotel Management and Tourism.  She enjoys music, is a great cook and baker.  She loves using her hands and has recently added the craft of diamond art to her repertoire of crafting skills.

Unfortunately, due to the limitations of Covid restrictions, losing her job, and not being able to socialize,  Anastasia recently ended up in a situation that greatly impeded her lifestyle.   She was not able to take care of pressure sores that developed and she did not realize the extent to which the infection had advanced not only in her paralyzed leg, but in her entire body.   Thankfully,  on March 15th she made the call to go to the hospital where it was determined that the amputation of her right leg above the knee would be the best case scenario for her.

Her surgery was on March 17th at Health Sciences North Hospital in Sudbury, and it went really well but as a result,  Anastasia is now faced with new challenges. She will be dealing with months of rehabilitation and has had to give up her apartment.

Currently, she is working with her Social Worker in trying to find wheelchair accessible supportive housing that will meet her needs for when she is discharged from the hospital, but unfortunately these units are hard to come by.   Until which time a new home becomes available to her,  her apartment furnishings will have to be put into storage and when she does find a new home she will be faced with new expenses for assistive devices and furnishings appropriate to her new accommodations and needs.

She will continue to look for work, as her continued goal is to be able to support herself financially,  however finding work in this climate under her new challenging circumstances may be difficult.  She does receive help from the Ontario Disability Support Program, however her financial needs have always surpassed that assistance.

Despite all of these challenges,  Anastasia remains hopeful.  She is thankful to be alive and in the care of such great medical professionals.   She is determined to once again overcome the many obstacles in her way.  She is grateful for the love and support of her family and friends and the good wishes of the many who pray for her and send healing vibes her way.

Unfortunately as Science North continues to be on Covid lockdown, cards and flowers and whatnot are not permitted to be sent to Anastasia.   We, her family, have set up this Go Fund Me page so that she may know that even though we cannot be with her in body, we are all there for her in spirit.

Thank you for any donation to help Anastasia get a fresh start!

June 25th Update:  Thank you to everyone for your financial support and prayers!  Anastasia has now been through 2 surgeries, and is improving, and has found a new home for when she is ready to leave the hospital.  Due to Anastasia's continued stay in the hospital, funds have been directed to her mother, Cia Savage, so that Cia may purchase the necessities to furnish Anastasia's new home.   Since a wheelchair accessible townhome has become available to Anastasia,  Anastasia's mother has been busy researching and buying the furnishings, appliances and appropriate adjustable bed and mattress that Anastasia will need.  Visits have been made to Sleep Country and to Roy's Furniture in Sudbury and plans are in the making to have her townhome furnished and ready for her.  We are hoping for an August 1st move in date.
