Hi!
My name is Sam Stover and it is my dream to be a bassist in a symphony orchestra. Ever since I was a little kid, I hoped to play bass. I have had the privilege of learning from several amazing teachers. They ignited my passion for playing and encouraged me to constantly forge ahead. Currently, I study with Donovan Stokes whom I met through the Bass Coalition in Winchester. I am so fortunate to be studying with such an accomplished bassist. I travel two and a half hours from Pennsylvania to Virginia in order to study with him (and then home again!). I also am a member of the Peabody Youth Orchestra under the direction of Ankush Bahl. When I first heard the Peabody Youth Orchestra (PYO) in 6th grade, I knew that I wanted to join their ranks. I practiced tirelessly through the summer... even on vacation at the beach! I was rewarded with the invitation to join the talented and supportive bass section in this Baltimore based orchestra. I am a current student member of the International Society of Bassists (ISB) and traveled to Ithaca to learn from the wealth of knowledge from its members last June. Dr. Stokes, the PYO, and the ISB have helped me to grow so much!
The next step on my journey is to attend a summer program where I can continue to grow under the direction of professionals on a daily basis. I have been fortunate enough to be accepted to the Interlochen Center for the Arts High School Orchestra Program. It has been my dream to attend this internationally acclaimed program where I will experience new repertoire weekly, three hour rehearsals daily and six performances throughout my six week experience. I will have the opportunity to work with such legendary bass teachers as Lawrence Hurst and Winston Jack Budrow, Jr. Although I received a partial scholarship, I still need to fund $7,700 by May 1st in order to attend. This is for my tuition. Even a small donation would help me to get closer to working with the great bass teachers and orchestras at Interlochen.
