Help Amos Fight Leukemia

Our five-year-old son Amos was diagnosed with Leukemia on September 22, 2017. The prognosis is good, Amos has been a warrior and his glowing, spirited nature has been awe-inspiring. After spending a month in the hospital Amos came home where we are thrilled to have him with his twin four-year-old brothers Cyrus and Thomas. If things go well, Amos will be able to return to school in the fall of 2018.

Amos is undergoing chemotherapy and will continue to do so through 2021. This is quite a journey we’re on.

This fundraiser is designed to help us with medical and educational/caregiver needs through 2018.

Funding for Medical Needs

The costs for Amos’ medical insurance is $6,000 in 2017 and will be $7,000 in 2018. If we can get help funding these major expenses, then the remaining out-of-pocket medical expenses that he incurs will be much more manageable. Aside from lots of prescription drugs, at this time we honestly don’t know what the other medical costs will be – but we have been well-advised that they are coming.

Funding for Educational/Developmental/Caregiver Needs

Along with medical costs we need help funding caregiving and tutoring since Amos will miss the 2017-2018 school year as a kindergartener due to the chemotherapy compromising his immune system. He is currently homebound and will be for the next 6-10 months. We will likely need to continue with a caregiver through the summer of 2018. Our goal is to keep the big guy blossoming and have him start the 2018-2019 school year in first grade at Hynes Charter School.

Both of us parents work outside of the home and thankfully both of our employers have given us the flexibility to do some work from home. We still will need help with caring for Amos and continuing his education and will need to pay someone to help us with that two or three days a week. If we can get help with funding a caregivier for Amos this will allow us keep moving ahead in our careers and find a new “normal” in our lives and Amos can continue to grow, develop, and find a new “normal” in his.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to send them over.
