<div>Amber-Rose Berry’s journey is a testament to courage and perseverance. Fifteen years ago, as a toddler in Pringle Bay, Amber-Rose slipped during a swimming lesson and was gripped by a deep fear of water. That moment could have defined her, but instead, it became the starting point of an extraordinary transformation. Now, at 18, Amber-Rose is preparing to attempt the world’s most iconic ultra-marathon swim: crossing the English Channel. If successful, she will become the youngest South African woman ever to make the crossing. On August 14, Amber-Rose and her mother, Karen Berry, will travel from South Africa to London, then on to Dover, where they’ll wait for the perfect window to begin her swim between August 19 and August 27.

<div>Amber-Rose’s determination to break records is about more than personal achievement—it’s about inspiring others to acts of bravery and dedication. In the spirit of her journey, this fundraiser will not only support the travel and logistics needed for her Channel swim, but also help launch the Ukukhula Institute in Makhanda. This advanced sports academy provides scholarships for disadvantaged student-athletes from Eastern Cape high schools to attend Rhodes University, Karen’s alma mater. Amber-Rose’s swim will shine a light on what is possible when you believe in yourself, and the funds raised will create opportunities for others to follow in her footsteps.
