Help Amazing Kate Clemont Recover!

Hi! I’m Sarah Marques, and I’m raising money to help my amazing friend, Kate Clemont, in her long recovery from a flesh-eating bacteria infection. Please read & share her story. I met Kate & family at her autism fundraising carnival around 2007 and was in awe of her energy and creativity as the mom of a child on the autism spectrum, Jack. Kate brings unparalleled joy, understanding and humor to the autism community locally, and she & her husband Curtis and son CJ have raised countless funds to help children on the spectrum. Kate was a teacher of art classes at the Family Autism Center and Camp Puzzle Peace when suddenly, in July 2015, she became critically ill with a flesh-eating bacteria infection. Miraculously, with the most grace and courage, she survived.  Unfortunately, she went into cardiac arrest twice. While doctors were able to remove the infected areas on her torso, they couldn’t save her right hand, left index finger, and tips of her toes which had lost their blood supply as she fought to stay alive.

The road to recovery continues, and that is where your help is needed. Two weeks ago, Kate had her 32nd surgery, this time to repair damaged and tight skin on her torso (where infection was removed in 2015) that caused pain with every breath. The surgery was planned as “in and out,” stretching healthy skin across the large damaged area, but an allergy to specialized tape caused the healing and recovery to be unexpectedly difficult. The stretched skin has not yet connected to the underlying tissue, so home nursing is required to treat this huge, painful and slow healing area from her spine to her side and around to her chest daily.

Kate and her husband Curtis have kept a wonderful spirit and terrific sense of humor with acceptance of the hand they’ve been dealt. They have never asked for help despite the enormous financial, physical and emotional burden. Even now, through her difficult recovery from the recent surgery, Kate continues to get up and about and to care for her family at home. Her husband Curtis’ hip surgery last week thankfully went well!

The family is still paying bills from the summer of 2015, and they are now burdened by the additional cost of the most recent surgery, home nursing, and frequent follow up visits. Every small bit helps, as Kate always told me when she was raising money to help others. Now, it is Kate’s turn to receive help from those who know and love her or are inspired by her fighting spirit and ability to overcome the unimaginable. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. It will surely come back to you. http://13wham.com/news/special-reports/a-story-of-survival-one-womans-journey-after-a-flesh-eating-disease
