ዝኸበርኩም ኣሕዋትን መተዓቢትን!

Can you help Amanuel see his children and wife for the first time?

Eritrean national Amanuel  was only 11 years old when the long  war against Ethiopia for independence forced thousands to flee the towns in Eritrea for safety in the mountains in the remote Sahel province. He was taught by members of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF)  in the Revolution School . When he was a teenager and in the 8th Grade, the EPLF sent him behind the Ethiopian enemy lines  to remote villages to  teach  in a  literacy campaign. The villagers  treated them as their own children when they learnt how to read and write for the first time, without any teaching materials, never mind classrooms. These were dangerous times. During a night time raid by  Ethiopian army forces in the village where he was teaching, he was shot in the head and captured. When  he was taken for treatment, the surgeon refused to do anything when he found out Amanuel  was in the EPLF. He lost sight in both his eyes as a result.
After independence he married, had 6 children and became a teacher at the School for the Blind in the capital Asmara. Amanuel is a devoted father, but although he is bringing up his children, he has never actually seen them, or his wife. Imagine how heartbreaking that must be.
Recently, however, thanks to consultations with different eye surgeons, there is hope that sight in one of his eyes might be restored by having an artificial retina implant.
To do this, however, he needs to travel to Germany and have the operation there. As you can imagine, this will cost hundreds of thousands of Euros. This is where you can really help.
Please give as much as you can afford to help bring his sight back so he can lead the life he and his family deserve so much. Thank you.
