¡Hola amigos! Let me start out by saying thank you for showing an interest in my passions. For those of you who don't already know me, my name is Alyssa, I'm 19 years old and currently a Senior at Western Washington University. Ever since I can remember, I have dreampt of living in the lovely country of Spain. Two years ago, I was fortunate enough to visit my dream country for my senior trip with my family. Although I only spent a short two weeks there, I quickly fell in love with the people, the language, and ultimately everything about the Spanish culture. I knew I wanted to learn more and was immediately planning my return. This was the main factor that drove me to study Spanish at WWU. As a Cultural Anthropology major and Spanish minor, I was recently given the oppurtunity to study abroad in Spain for fall semester of 2018 to complete the classes I need to graduate.
I am very passionate about learning Spanish, and according to language experts, being immersed in the culture is the best way to do so. I believe learning about other cultures is SO important, especially in today's world. The more we know about those who are different from ourselves, the more accepting we are of them. In my opinion, not much beats a world full of humans who are accepting of one another.
During my time abroad, I will be living with a host family in the city of Granada while taking 25 credits in language and culture. The expenses I am expected to cover include airfare, tuition, books, school supplies, housing, food, insurance, visa, and spending money which comes to a total of about $15,000. Although I have applied for many scholarships and am currently working part-time and saving every bit I can, I am still short for funds to cover all the mandatory expenses. My family is not able to financially support me through this like many families with children who want to study abroad can. Although they wish they could help, I am forced to figure out expenses all on my own and I am determined to find a way.
This is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity and it would mean the world to me to recieve any kind of support. If you feel as if you'd like to support myself and my ambitions, you can donate through my campaign. ANYTHING helps! Thank you all so much for your time and consideration.
