Help Aly Battle Cancer

Donation protected
Let me introduce you to my beautiful sister Aldyth. Born on the island of Jamaica, she is the middle child of 5 children. She relocated to Florida during her 20’s and has been in the medical field being a blessing to patients and colleagues alike since graduating as an Echo Tech. Everyone far and near loves Aly. She is patient, caring and has a kind heart and a generous spirit. She is always helping others, whether it is funding special projects, consoling loved ones or taking in family members until they found homes of their own. Well today, we want to give back some of the love she has bestowed upon us as she now needs it desperately.

My sister had been experiencing pains on and off last year, but working two jobs to support her family she was not able to take the time off to go to the doctor. Aside from not being able to take the time off, neither job provided benefits since she worked per diem. Finally, after getting coverage thru the Marketplace in May she went for a colonoscopy and was told that there was a mass that could be malignant.

On May 11, we got the devastating news, my wonderful sister had colon cancer. Our family was shaken but not Aly. Aly has always been positive and proactive and refused to let the diagnosis take her over. She packed up for a several weeks to Turks and Caicos so that she could pursue alternative treatments. Her trip was successful as we have seen a reduction in her tumor markers, but it came at a great sacrifice as she had to take a leave of absence from both jobs. In fact, the hospital promptly fired her despite being aware that she is in a battle for her life.

No longer having an income, she has gone through her savings so in addition to the stress of her illness is also concerned about her day-to-day bills.  She has had to hide the diagnosis from her elderly mom who lives with her.  At 93 we fear that she may not be able to handle it and could become very ill. She is aware that Aly is ill as she looks unwell and has lost a lot of weight but she doesn’t know that it is cancer. From time-to-time however she voices concern and wonders what exactly is wrong with her dear child.

Since her diagnosis, I have reduced my hours at work to help my sister when she is ill. Although I am helping her financially, we now need to raise money for the  surgery and treatments that she has to undergo. We are asking for help so that Aly can simply focus on beating this diagnosis and enjoying the time left with her mother.
