Hello everyone,
I’m Lauren and I’m helping to raise funds for my best friend of over 20 years, Alison Adams. In April of 2020 Alison received the life saving gift of a new kidney all thanks to the generosity of her sister, Amanda. Part of being a transplant survivor means she is required to take strong medications that suppress her immune system. This leaves her body susceptible to catching illnesses. For most people these illnesses are harmless, but for Alison it could mean a hospital stay.
On October 9th Alison woke up in severe pain, unable to walk and barely able to stand. After a few days with no relief, she headed to the ER where she was admitted after doctors had discovered she had the staph infection, MSSA. The staph infection turned septic and settled on her spine where she has 2 broken vertebrae. 10 days later, after trying a few different antibiotics to treat the infection, she was allowed to go home. Alison was given a picc line to administer IV antibiotics at home for 6 weeks. However, after only a few days at home things took a turn for the worse and she was back in the hospital. This time she would be in San Antonio where her transplant team could watch over her closely. She entered the Methodist Specialty and Transplant hospital on November 2nd. At this point the staph infection was continuing to get worse, causing her to lose the ability to walk. Throughout the month of November the doctors worked to get her on the right combination of meds to fight the infection.
She is currently in rehab trying to get her strength back and learning to walk again in order for her to return home to her husband and 3 young children. On December 6th, she’ll be allowed to return home, but her journey doesn’t end once she leaves the hospital. She’ll have weeks of at home health care, at home IV infusions, therapy, and follow up Dr appointments.
I have no doubt that all of this will be very expensive and I’m hoping we can help alleviate some of these costs as the Christmas holiday approaches.
Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to make a donation. Wether it’s $1 or $100, all donations are very much appreciated.
