Help Alicia care for Lia

Donation protected

A few days ago, Alicia Rusch Shively took her lovely 13 year old daughter Lia, to the ER. She was jaundice and had many other symptoms that indicated a serious but unknown liver issue. She continued to decline in health. They arranged an emergency medivac flight for Lia and Alicia to the big medical center in Vancouver, BC. Lia has been in the ICU ever since.
Lia has since been diagnosed with a rare liver condition, Wilson Disease. She began treatment, however her liver wasn’t responding/recovering (accute liver failure) and complications developed when other organs were performing poorly and the situation has become dire. Per Alicia, Lia is somewhat stablized in this hour, but plans are being made for the possibility of liver transplant (!), which would take them to Edmonton. David is with Oran in Victoria right now.

If you know Alicia, you know she is so strong and hard working, a dedicated mother and generous friend. She works hard to support her family and she is not able to do that right now. I know it weighs on her but she is not one to ask for this help, so I asked her if we could join together to help her this way. Please share this request on your social media or directly with friends and family.

We can all appreciate the stressful situation she is in: being in a different city (not an easy commute to Victoria!), not able to work (self-employed), caring for her critically ill child, away from her son, husband, and support system. We hope our support can help reunite them, too.

If you feel you are in a position to help ease her burden, we welcome you to contribute today. Alicia is also so thankful for your prayers and devoted energy in support of Lia’s recovery. We will post updates for you as they are possible. We are focused on a full recovery for Lia!

I found this quote online, and I think it sums up the GoFundMe spirit ❤️  and what we want for Alicia, Lia, Oran and David. “I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.” -Jewish Proverb
