<div>October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a cause near and dear to my heart. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1977, at a time when survival rates were slim. She not only survived—she thrived—and taught me the importance of courage, compassion, and community.

<div>Now, my dear Canadian friend Alice Lee needs that same support and strength.

<div>Alice Lee was recently diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer in her lungs. She was treated for Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2023. It is the most aggressive type of breast cancer. There are fewer treatment options and it has a poor prognosis. The treatments did not work in 2023 and in October 2024, she fell ill with Dermatomyositis which has a strong link to cancer. Tests in March 2025 revealed tumors in her lungs which are from breast cancer. Like so many people, she finds herself caught between a devastating diagnosis and an impossible financial reality—no health insurance, no steady income, and no family safety net to fall back on.
