UPDATE 11/19/2020 -

hi & peace y’all,

I’m alx - a  Black (multiracial - Haitian/Arawak/French) queer trans spectrum nonbinary/exo/agender perceived femme. I am a cultural worker, creative, multi-media storyteller/musician & organizer dedicated to the liberation of Black & Indigenous imagination, self determination, land sovereignty, and love globally by way of centering, nourishing & uplifting Black Trans, Gender Non Conforming,  Queer & Femme narratives, imagination, and technologies.

THANKS YALL SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT & HELPING ME REACH A QUARTER OF MY GOAL - although I did not make my goal for the full $10000 to cover moving expenses as well as a new car to double as housing - the support y'all showed me to make it even to a quarter of my goal has been deeply felt and seriously appreciated - especially in a time where I had no other hope in the midst of urgent housing instability this has been my first time asking for financial support and was something that felt deeply anxiety inducing as I put it up- so again thank you.

Through y’alls support I was able to move out of my Flatbush spot and ultimately out of New York, allowing me to navigate housing intense housing insecurity (yet again) and be able to have a safe place to land for the time being.

Currently, I am at my mothers apartment in South Florida, where I am able to stay till at least end of January - from now till then I am focusing on applying to different gigs, grants, and some jobs - in hopes to be able to secure a sense of financial security,  shift away from survival s*x work and generate a stable stream of income for my inevitable need to move out early next year from my mom’s.

In the Meantime -

I am currently leaving this open, renaming it to “Alex’s Stability & Wellness Fund”, and lowering my goal to $5000 in hopes to be able to fundraise the roughly remaining $2500 to be put towards Urgent Dental Health Treatment.

WELLNESS FUND EXPLAINED

About a week ago (first week of November) -  I had to visit a Dentist in Brooklyn, in the midst of moving to seek treatment for intense tooth pain that had been effecting my hearing - I’m currently being treated for a root canal, but was told by 2 dentist that I am in urgent need of a longer term dental treatment plan. I am currently in need of 4 more root canals, 6 urgent fill-ins, and beginning treatment for receding gums/showing signs of early gum disease... :/ my dental issues have been a constant potential threat to the rest of my health for the past 3 years and pandemic earlier this year forced me to not be able to help prevent the worsening of my dental health.
Basicallyy, was told by 2 different dentists if I don’t prioritize starting gum treatment and taking care of some of these root canals by the end of next year - I very likely will lose all my teeth and one of the infections might cross into my blood stream, adding further complications to my health..
So,  now I am to prioritizing beginning dental treatment this winter, I have free dental insurance through Medicaid and was told that they do not cover root canals, gum issues, or anything past a basic fill-in/cleaning...
I am now looking to go to Mexico for about a month this winter, prioritize literally - healing in all the ways.

Thanks y’all for reading & sharing

+**Original Gofundme Description - September 29, 2020  ***+

Urgency of the Situation -

I’m currently setting up this crowdfund because I am in urgent need of a car, by October 8th, so that I can move myself and my stuff out of my current living situation. I am also trying to lean on this car as a potential fallback plan for housing as I am currently navigating housing insecurity and the need to move right now.
I’m currently unemployed and before the pandemic, I was looking for more consistent sources of income, outside of what I usually fall back on -  s*x work and inconsistent - sometimes creative - gig work.
I have been largely relying on unemployment to get me through this year, however once I got here 2 months ago, unemployment services got cut (as many of you know and probably have also experienced). I’ve bled through the amount that I was able to save from those initial months and am currently waiting for the small back payment for August, when PUA was turned back on -  this still isn’t even close to being enough for me to be to secure a reliable means of transportation nor secure housing though.

A little back story -

Over the past 2 months, I left my apartment in Flatbush, NY to become apart of a, mostly Black, queer farming project out here in Virginia that has been providing free food for a mutual aid project to Black folks in the Richmond & Charlottesville area. Due to yt liberalism, we are currently in transition/ the process of fundraising, as well as seeking new land to steward (https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-black-lune-farms-in-our-land-transition).

In the meantime, we have to move out by October 1st. As of recent, my apartment in Flatbush is no longer an option for me to return to and so I am currently seeking housing again, somewhere, which may or not, be in New York. I have till the 8th of October to be able to collect the rest of my stuff from my old apartment in Flatbush and thankfully have a friend in Richmond that is down to house my stuff for the first two weeks of October while I try to figure out my next plan/move & secure my resources to be able to do such.

Having a vehicle that I can also potentially live out of will allow me a strong sense of stability, security, and wellness as I navigate the need to move right now. Any place I am potentially going to be moving to and through as currently know it to be - will be either temporary and/or potentially precarious, until I am able to figure out/ feel out a healthily stable situation. I want to center moving at the speed of trust, which I believe is a verb - actively built between all parties - and I find it hard sometimes to really have that be authentically built in ways that are non-threatening or coercive when resources & resource sharing are sadly, constant sources of mis-managed conflict. I’m trying to lean on living out my car as a security/ fall back plan, because I don’t want to be too materially dependent on navigating meeting new people and trying to build community when trust,  especially now, understandably and respectfully, takes time.

Budget:
+$6000 - for a reliable good truck/vehicle.
+$1500 - for materials such as extra car battery & convertor for electricity, wood, registration, insurance, replacement license, soft bed, car rentals to check out different cars, and any other car related expenses.
+$2500 - for security, contingency plan, and accounting for gofundme related costs

My folks are all over, and I need to be able to move me and them around, be mobile, ready.

In order to sustain myself through these times - I’ve been working on trying to center joy, deepening my commitment to my creative work & passions, as well as getting myself and my offerings together to be able to share more with community right now. Being thrown into such intense material instability and having to focus yet again on where I’m going to live and how I’m going to get to a stable ground, is making it hard to focus or follow through on doing the kind of liberation work that I’m called to, especially, now.

So yeah…

just wanna say I’m really appreciative of anyone who is capable and willing to help me out with this right now. Truly grateful for any bit.

Also want to say that - I am deeply appreciative and in love with the community of qtbipoc folks I’ve been able to meet and make relationships with all over the past few years - I truly appreciate everyone who has helped me over these years as I've moved around so much, and I hope that ya’ll are well if you’re reading this <3

On another important note -

It makes me sad to say this, but also I know a lot of people - especially Black TGNC, as well as generally low income Black (especially) & Brown folks are on the verge of potential displacement & housing insecurity - due to all the shits, shifts and that truly on the broader level this is nothing new. So dear reader,  if you are able to, please consider donating to other Black TGNC folks at this time too, especially the ones already in your life. Lets lean into this abundance, frreal..
