Help Alex get to Brown !

Hello everyone!
My name is Alex and I am a 16 year old high school student in Washington State. My goal is to earn my PhD in Immunology and work as a laboratory and research scientist at the Center for Disease Control. For a long time my dream has been to learn about diseases and work with a team to find cures for those who suffer from them. Now my dream has a chance to become a reality. Just recently I was accepted into Brown University’s Summer Program at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia—over 3,000 miles away from where I live. By attending this program it will allow me to study infectious diseases alongside some of the world’s top research scientists. Through this, I will be able to hear exactly what these researchers did in order to get where they are and more about the work they do. Hearing this, I will be able to set the course for my life in hopes of getting to work exactly where I want to, doing exactly what I want to do. With achieving my dream, I will be able to study deadly diseases which impact millions of people. With cancer, diabetes, and cystic fibrosis impacting people in my life, I aim to find cures for these unfair diseases. With money being tight, I may not be able to attend this life-changing program.
This is why I am asking for your help. I need to raise $4,000 by May 5, 2017 to pay for tuition and travel expenses. With each donation I will be one step closer to my dream of curing the world of horrible diseases. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Even if you cannot contribute you can still help me achieve this dream by spreading the word to family and friends!

My academic, leadership, and community service record reflects my personal values and motivation to make a difference in the world. I am currently in my junior year of high school and have taken 4 Advanced Placement classes in addition to my accelerated math class. I plan on taking 7 AP classes total. I have positioned myself in the top 10% of my class, maintaining a 3.95 GPA. I’ve been a member of the National Honors Society each year I’ve been eligible.
However, in order to be a good citizen and contributing member of my community I also believe in taking leadership and volunteer opportunities to develop myself and to give back. In National Honors Society we contribute 30 hours of community service each year. These are hours are in addition to our graduation requirement. I don’t believe in just meeting the minimum, though. My graduation requirement for community service is 30 hours but I have served over 70 hours, with still another year of high school to go. In total I have over 130 hours of community service.
In my community and in my school I believe it’s important to serve. I dedicate most of my time towards my high school’s band. For the past two years I’ve been selected by the Band Directors as Section Leader and was recently chosen to be one of three drum majors for next year, where I will lead over 100 of my peers. I have done numerous competitive and community events through band and continue to do musical activities outside. I believe in working very hard at things I set my mind to, so I was honored to be selected, from hundreds of auditions, as first flute in the All-State Symphony, which is comprised of the best musicians in Washington State. I was also selected to be first flute in the Western International Band Clinic, a select group of musicians from four neighboring states and Australia.
I know that I must challenge myself and was honored when I was the only sophomore chosen to represent my high school at the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar at Washington State University. In this most recent school year I was chosen as the junior class representative for the Economics for Leaders Seminar in Seattle and the Advanced Leadership Academy in Chicago. Both of these honors were given by faculty, something I’m extremely honored by.
I believe that I am a very well rounded student and that my dedication to academics, community, and the field of study I wish to enter serves as evidence that this opportunity could change my life and help me help others after I graduate college.
