Help Alex Attend Fall Semester at SUNY Binghamton

Hi there, my name is KT Fitzgerald. I am raising funds on behalf of my dear friend and peer Alexandra Miranda, a fellow student here at Binghamton who will be going into her senior year this Fall. This is an urgent and time-sensitive ask, and I humbly ask that this fundraiser be shared widely throughout the Binghamton University community for maximum reach. The University has put a hold on Alex's account so that she may not register for the semester until a $5000 balance is paid in full; being a low-income, first-generation Latinx student, neither she nor her family can afford to pay the school's hefty tuition fee on her own. Due to circumstances outside of her control and issues with finding a co-signer, she is unable to simply take out a loan to cover the cost. If she cannot come up with the funds, she will not be able to attend Binghamton this semester and will have to delay her senior year and graduation significantly, setting her back financially and career-wise for no reason other than the unjust, classist barriers so many students at Binghamton are forced to face.

Alex is a highly dedicated organizer and activist within the Binghamton University campus community, having been President and now the senior advisor for Binghamton's Women's Student Union. Her work and advocacy was instrumental in the establishment of the Violence, Abuse, and Rape Crisis Center (VARCC) on Binghamton's campus. Alex is a passionate and brilliant student; she has worked extremely hard in all areas of life, whether it be in her academics, extracurricular activities, personal life, or professional life, and has overcome a slew of daunting obstacles, succeeding and thriving despite whatever oppressive hurdles life has thrown her way. She is a published researcher, an NUFP Fellow, and has spent this past summer working an intensive internship at San Diego State University. She also serves as a campus RA, overseeing residents in campus dorm communities. She is a leader in every sense of the word and deserves to attend this coming semester and graduate. I work closely with Alex as the current President of Women's Student Union; she provides invaluable wisdom, care, and knowledge to everyone around her, both in and outside the context of WSU. Alex is going to do amazing things, and she needs our support.
