Hello friends, family, and podcast listeners!
We are raising funds to support emergency medical expenses needed by one of our co-founders and co-hosts, Alejandra Spector.
As some of you may already know, Alejandra lives with multiple chronic illnesses that have been exacerbated by the stress and isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Approximately one week ago, Alejandra had a health emergency and was hospitalized.
You also are likely aware that the US healthcare and health insurance systems often do not cover much needed medical expenses for individuals with chronic illnesses. This includes not just the hospital bills, vital medications, and various treatments, but also opportunity costs including time from work, time needed to receive treatment, and chronic exhaustion from navigating complex systems.
We know this is a difficult time and there are many people struggling financially as a result of COVID-19. We care deeply about Alejandra and her important contributions to social work, the arts, and centering mental health and disability in conversations about healing. We want to do everything we can to support her in this challenging time and ask that you consider donating what you can toward that end.
No amount is too small, we hope to alleviate some of the stress and burden created by financial pressure and help her know that she is cared for by our community!
