Hello there,
If you are reading this, you may already be aware of the heartbreaking story of Akira - the beautiful 4 year old Pedigree Great Dane, that was neglected to the point of death in a local kennel.
We're raising funds to help the family cover the legal fees associated persuing justice for Akira, and keep the conversation around this issue public.
This strong, healthy dog - chosen out as "pick of the litter" by his breeder - was returned to his family after 11 days in the care of the kennel owners, dying.
He was rushed to his vet clinic where soon after he suffered a severe health episode on the waiting room floor.
Later that same day, after the amazing vets had attempted to stabilise him, Akira suffered a fatal cardic arrest resulting directly from the negect he had sustained during his stay at the kennel.
We are strongly in support of the family holding those responsible for Akira's needless death.
The massive toll of Akira's loss and the severity of the circumstances are being felt by the wider community, with condolences being offered Victoria wide.
To be clear - there is no two sides to this story.
Akira was handed over to this kennel as a healthy, happy woofa and he was returned on deaths door, a shell of the dog he was just 11 days earlier.
His family were never called.
Akira was never offered veterinary attention.
He just suffered, in the brutal heat..day after day - waiting for his family to come.
He held out as long as he could, so that he could die in the care of his humans.
Akira's body lays buried under the trees, in the backyard he used to gallop through.
His family is hoping that no other dog needs to experience the suffering that Akira went through at the hands of the professionals who's job it is to care for them.
The amount above is an estimate of what legal representation has quoted the family.
There is nothing to small and any help is sincerely appreciated.
Akira left behind his fur sister Opal (Kelpie) and his cat buddy TinTin, both of whom have mourned his loss in their own way (see images).
This Go Fund Me will be directed wholey towards the legal fees & will ease the burden on his family, who have been struggling with the reality of what has happened to their woofa, whilst also battling for their rights to speak on these animal abuse/neglect issues in an open forum.
Any excess funds will donated to a local animal rescue, which will be advised.
We will be posting updates on Akira's Case here on this platform.
