<div>On November 25, 2022, my charismatic, beautiful 37-year-old sister, Aimee Cox, received tragic news: she has stage 4 colon cancer that metastasized to the liver.

<div>In true Aimee fashion, she held her head up high and proclaimed she would give everything in herself to beat this ugly disease. With loving support from her partner Elliot and endless cuddles from Reese, her 11-month-old baby girl, Aimee was and still is determined to beat her diagnosis.

<div>Then, on November 30, 2022, we received a further setback. <strong>Aimee’s immunohistochemistry revealed she was positive for the mutated BRAF-V600E protein. </strong>
</div>

<div>“Between 8% and 12% of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) harbour a BRAF-V600E mutation in their tumours, which is associated with a poor response to standard chemotherapy and short overall survival.”

<div>“I’m not done living,” Aimee said through tears as we reviewed her medical reports.

<div>Although her prognosis is grim, Aimee has so much to fight for, and I know she will beat the odds. She will be there for her baby girl’s first day of school, first kiss, first love, and everything in between. She will be the auntie that my girls and all of the cousins go to for hair styling tips and pragmatic advice. She will be the funky-glasses-wearing old lady who proves you can be cool at any age.

<div>Due to the mutated BRAF-V600E protein, time is not on our side. We are asking for your help raising these funds so that the money is there when needed.

<div>Aimee will start an aggressive chemotherapy regimen in the coming weeks, and we are grateful for this first-line treatment. Still, there is a high probability that it will not be enough to eradicate this disease. Tumours harbouring the BRAF-V600E mutation are associated with a poor response to standard chemotherapy. <strong>For our second-line treatment, we are looking at clinical trials in the United States and Europe.</strong>

<div>The cost of seeking treatment outside of Canada is immense and, as a small business owner, something Aimee is unable to afford on her own. We humbly request your help reaching our goal of $200,000, which will assist in covering out-of-country medical bills and the day-to-day living expenses while both Aimee and Elliot are unable to work.

<div>We do not know precisely when Aimee will undergo her second-line treatment. Still, we know that medical costs outside of Canada are very expensive, especially when you do not have extended medical insurance, which Aimee does not. With this in mind,

<div>Aimee is a mother, partner, daughter, sister, auntie, best friend, entrepreneur, artist, and advocate. These are all words that describe Aimee, and while she carries each role close to her heart, she is so much more.

<div>Aimee is a loving and devoted mother and partner. Her first date with Elliot had them sharing their passion for food: he brought her handmade pasta, and she gave him homemade sauce. It was kismet. They shared a life full of outdoor and travel adventures until they chose to start a new adventure: parenthood. Aimee and Elliot welcomed their beautiful baby girl into the world on December 19, 2021. Motherhood has come naturally to Aimee, and I am in awe at the ease and grace she exudes when maneuvering the ins and outs of being a first-time mom.

<div>You can tell how in love she is with both Elliot and Reese, and she soaks up every waking moment with them.

<div>With two fathers, two mothers, four brothers and two sisters, Aimee hails from a large, blended family. She is an adored auntie to eleven nieces, four nephews and another due in January 2023.

<div>Aimee shows up for friends and family without hesitation and will work tirelessly to ensure they feel loved and special. She encourages and celebrates the things that make people unique (the quirkier, the better!). Aimee loves deep conversations, and when talking with her, you get a sense she sees you and is genuinely listening; she makes you feel loved for who you truly are.
