Help AFMG Cafe Invade Milwaukee!

 

 

Hi! My Name is Liz! I am a Chicago native, a game designer, and an alum of Le Cordon Bleu. How did AFMG Café start? What the hell is AFMG?! Attack from Marrs Games is an indie game company I founded that specializes in party games. At the beginning of this year I decided to expand from game design into my other passion...baking!...and merge the two parts of my life into something new. AFMG Café will be a 100% Vegan Bakery / Boardgame Café. My goal is to make a place that will give people an opportunity to experience great games, great food, and help smaller creatives be seen in a safe space. Alongside our Doughnut Dippers we’ll be featuring Horror Coffee brand Deadsled Coffee and Vegan Sprinkles from Sweetapolia. It’s time to grow our company and give people what they want!

 

 

 

 

Risks and challenges

Starting a small business always faces financial hurdles. Last year I contracted COVID and lost my job; at that time I had no choice but to move back to IL with my parents. I was able to find a full-time position to get me back on my feet, but then that company closed down after just three months. Unfortunately, my unemployment benefits were soon stopped as well as I became a victim of identity theft. I’m still facing financial repercussions from this theft, which has severely limited my ability to secure traditional small business loans.

 

I have been running AFMG Cafe as a Pop-Up for various markets and events in Milwaukee. Any costs and inventory for these Pop-Ups have been paid by myself from Pop-Up profits or from myself doing freelance work. AFMG Cafe has grown a great customer base already and sales are strong! We would have even more profits for growth if we were able to provide pick up and deliver services. Milwaukee Cottage laws do provide opportunities to sell out of your home, but as my current residence is technically out-of-state AFMG is unable to provide those services right now.

 

I’ve established that there’s a market demand for the unique combination of goods and services that AFMG has to offer, and built a growing and loyal customer base through hard work and determination. Access to capital is the largest challenge for small business owners. Right now, the biggest obstacle that is standing in the way of AFMG Cafe coming to Milwaukee is the lack of a permanent location. With your help, AFMG Cafe can become a reality!
