Four-year-old Afia Umair is known for her luscious brown curly hair and contagious smile. Today, her days are spent in a hospital fighting for her will to live. Afia, who would be enjoying her found responsibility of being an older sister to her new two-month-old brother, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). Currently, she is being treated at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Lahore, Pakistan.
Her mother and family is by her side as her father works overseas in Dubai to not only pay off his debt but now the debt of his sick little girl.
It wasn’t until Afia’s mother started noticing dark patches and the yellowing of her daughter’s skin. She checked in with a doctor and that’s when she was informed of the diagnosis. Currently, not only is Afia getting treated for chemotherapy, she has been forced to leave her original city of (Okara, Pakistan) to seek treatment in Lahore (Pakistan) , this has gotten costly for the family in many ways.
Desperate for help. Afia’s mother is seeking financial assistance as well as someone who may be able to be a blood donor. Afia’s blood type is O-negative.
This campaign is launched by Afia’s relatives in America and hopes to reach to cities across the United States for anyone to spare any amount one can afford. Every dollar can help this cause.
According to doctors, the treatment may take up to two years, which will be costly as the Umair family currently is not from Lahore, and will more than likely, need to relocate for those two years.
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Lahore, Pakistan has pledged to cover majority of the cost of the treatment. However, Afia's family is still responsible for some portion of the total cost which is approximately $15,000.00 for her treatment and relocation.
