<div>This past September, my dear friend Adela Wagner's art studio was tragically destroyed in one of NYC's worst fires in decades.

<div>Her work spans a wide variety of mediums that reflects the diversity in her talents: painted canvases, sculptures, metalworks, photographic prints, and public art installation pieces, to name a few. This doesn't even include the in-progress projects, tools, and raw materials that were also lost.

<div>Hers is one of many studios affected by the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/20/nyregion/red-hook-warehouse-fire.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">historic Red Hook Fire</a>, which became a national news story.
</div>

</div>
<div>Beyond the emotional heartbreak of losing her life's work, it's also financially devastating. Some pieces were in-progress commissions that she won't be able to receive compensation on, nor does the building have any insurance for artists affected.
</div>

</div>
<div>Adela has been a community organizer in New York for over a decade. She helped launch a program for community fridges, co-founded Crown Heights mutual aid, and frequently hosts dinners and events that bring people together whether to celebrate or commiserate.
</div>

<div>In short, she's an exceptional human and wonderful artist.
</div>
