Help a Young Man Fight Blood Cancer

Donation protected
Manu Joseph, a 24-year-old, who hails from a remote village in Kerala, India, was working as a Pastry Chef in Vancouver (on a work permit) since January, 2019. Growing up in a household with minimal income, this  hardworking young man started supporting his parents financially from the age of 21.

On June 17, 2019 Manu went to the emergency room at the St Paul’s Hospital (Vancouver, Canada) following few episodes of nosebleeds, continued headache, and tiredness for a few days.

He was diagnosed with an aggressive type of blood cancer - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

 His world froze.

Manu was immediately admitted to the hospital and then got transferred to the Oncology Ward at Vancouver General Hospital where he stayed for a month to receive his first phase of chemotherapy. He  requires continued chemotherapy followed by a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), which is a critical and major procedure. Now he visits hospital multiple days in a week to continue chemotherapy. He is hoping that his sister (Chinju Joseph) in India is a match for him as a BMT donor. The tests to confirm her eligibility is currently underway.

According to doctors' assessment, Manu's treatment will take about two years. During this time, he will not be able to work. Being on work permit, he is not eligible for Unemployment Benefits after 3 months.

As of now, Manu needs support to cover his accommodation, living expenses and travel expenses for bringing his sister to Vancouver for Bone Marrow donation. Coming from a mediocre economic background, his parents lack the financial resources to support Manu. His relatives and friends alone cannot sufficiently take care of his needs until he is able to work again. We sincerely request your contribution to this GoFundMe campaign organized by a team of Manu’s friends and relatives to raise money for his living expenses (for next 1.5 years) and BMT related expenses. Manu will be the sole beneficiary of this campaign. The fund raised will be transferred directly to his bank account on a weekly basis, until the end of this campaign. About 55% of the total fund will be used for apartment rent, 25% for living expenses, 6% for travel/taxi expenses for regular hospital visits, and 7% for the travel expenses of BMT donor. About 7% of the fund will be kept for emergencies.

Let us help Manu to keep his radiant smile and fight cancer without worrying about financial burden. Let us help him to continue his journey to achieve his dream to create new delicious pastry recipes.

Please give generously to this GoFundMe campaign. We also request you to share this campaign on Facebook and other social media platforms.

We take this opportunity to thank the amazing people of Vancouver, who helped and supported Manu throughout this difficult time by providing him lots of love, inspiration and support  - in addition to the home cooked food, hospital visits and phone calls. Please continue to support Manu in his journey to conquer this dreadful disease and attain a complete recovery.

 Thank you,
