<div>Hi, my name is Chiara, and I’m an international Film student at Ithaca College, New York, originally from Matera, in the south of Italy. I was given the opportunity to study in the US thanks to the Davis Scholar Program, which supports my education with a scholarship.

<div>My dream has always been to become a director, and this year, I finally have the chance to make my own short film with a larger crew and a story that means a lot to me both artistically and personally.

<div><strong>About the Film</strong>
</div>
<div><strong>Silhouettes is a story about grief, memory, and human connection.</strong>
</div>
<div>It follows Dale, a young man struggling to cope with the loss of someone deeply meaningful to him. His way of coping is through isolation and writing, trying to capture his feelings in a poem.
</div>
<div>Meanwhile, Anne, an energetic and curious young woman, carries similar shadows of loss. She’s also writing about her own pain. Their meeting in a record store, then again in Dale’s flower shop is unexpected and cinematic. As they discover they’re writing about the same thing, Anne decides she wants to finish the poem with Dale.

<div>The film is not only about loss, but also about acceptance, the need for connection, and how we need each other to bring comfort back into our lives.

<div><strong>Why This Project Matters to Me</strong>
</div>
<div>I will be both the director and cinematographer, and I see Silhouettes as a <strong><em>visual exploration of my own experience with grief</em></strong> — a way to turn something deeply personal into a story others can connect with.
</div>
<div>The film will combine black-and-white and color sequences to represent absence and presence, isolation and connection. It will be quiet, emotional, and poetic, a meditation on what it means to remain when someone or something is gone.

<div><strong>Il film</strong>
</div>
<div>“Silhouettes” è un cortometraggio che parla di lutto, memoria e connessione umana.
</div>
<div>Racconta la storia di Dale, un ragazzo che fatica a superare la perdita di una persona per lui molto importante. Il suo modo di affrontare il dolore è isolarsi e scrivere, cercando di racchiudere tutto ciò che prova in una poesia.
</div>
<div>Dall’altra parte c’è Anne, una ragazza vivace e curiosa, che porta dentro di sé un dolore simile. Anche lei scrive per cercare di dare un senso alla propria perdita. Il loro incontro, prima in un negozio di dischi, poi in un piccolo negozio di fiori, è del tutto casuale ma significativo per entrambi.

<div>Quando scoprono che stanno scrivendo la stessa poesia, Anne decide di volerla finire insieme a Dale.
</div>
<div>Il film parla non solo di perdita, ma anche di accettazione, bisogno di legami e del modo in cui gli altri possono restituirci un po’ di pace.

<div><strong>L'importanza del progetto per il mio percorso</strong>
</div>
<div>Sarò sia regista che direttrice della fotografia, e considero Silhouettes <strong>una riflessione visiva sul mio modo di vivere il lutto</strong> un modo per trasformare qualcosa di intimo in una storia che possa toccare anche gli altri.
</div>
<div>Il film alternerà sequenze in bianco e nero e a colori, per rappresentare l’assenza e la presenza, la solitudine e la connessione.
</div>
<div>Sarà un film poetico e visivo, una meditazione su ciò che significa restare, quando qualcuno o qualcosa non c’è più.
