Hello friends! Here is an update!
The house is just about complete and ready for moving in...which is AMAZING!
Of course, we had to throw away all of the furniture due to the years of moisture coming into the house so, I am back asking for your assistance once again in raising the funds to buy a bed, washer/dryer, dresser, night stand, couch and kitchen table/chairs.
You have all given SO much but I ask if you can to give just a little more.
If we are thrifty, we can get all that's needed with $2000 and hopefully have some funds to pay the first year of homeowners insurance and put a little dent in the 2019 tax bill.

I am raising money to help an elderly neighbor on my street that I've known for about 20 years.
She has lived in Fayetteville since coming here from Germany in the 60's with her husband, (who passed after they divorced), and moved into the neighborhood in 1984.
She worked very hard in a knitting mill for most of her adult life before retiring a few years back.
(She also has a super interesting story of how she 'escaped East Germany on a bike when she was 18).
Now, she lives solely on her social security, which isn't very much, definitely not enough to fix all that needs to be done.
Her home has been in disrepair for a long time....
The community came together about 15 years ago to get her a new roof but, like with many such projects, the help/enthusiasm fizzled after the roof materials were donated by a local church and we neighbors gathered to put it on.
Much more work needed to be done, to include pretty much gutting the inside from the damage done by the roof that had numerous, large leaks for several years.
She tried to raise the money to fix things over the years, to include taking a small second mortgage, but with the low hourly wage she lived on, a daughter to raise and no other help, things quickly deteriorated past the point where she could do anything.
She has sought help over the years but until now, had no success.
Now the Cumberland County Community Development program is ready and willing to help her but there is one small glitch....there is a small amount owed on a 2nd mortgage and they can't do it with a 2nd lien on the property due to them having to put on a lien while the work is being done, (there is no first mortgage), and they have to take 2nd lien position.
The amount owed is a little shy of $6000 so, I am trying to raise at least $6000 so the mortgage can be paid off and the work can begin.
Any additional funds raised will go to her so she can buy some furniture or appliances after the work is done, (she has no working appliances except for one burner on her stove).
My friend currently lives in a tiny section of the home by the kitchen, she has no heat in winter except what comes from a kerosene heater - she has fashioned cardboard on the top rafters, (ceilings are gone), to try and keep the cold/hot air out.
She is also full of pride and says she is ok and won't come stay in someone else's home, insisting she is ok.
This is also why I am not putting her name on here. I told her I would help her find a way to get the money and promised whatever I did, I would do it discreetly.
Of course, this isn't exactly discreet but not mentioning her name fulfills my promise to her.
I won't go on and on - I will just say the situation is dire. The house isn't a good, healthy place for anyone but especially this lady who just turned 80.
If the home can't be fixed by the CCCD, it will be condemned and she will have to figure out where to go.
With limited income, her choices will be slim...not to mention she will have to leave the home she's lived in for 34 years.
Time is running short on this, for sure. If the money isn't raised within a few weeks, CCCD will have to put her back on a waiting list, which won't be good. Especially because the Inspections Dept. will be coming out to do a whole house inspection at some point prior to Oct. 1st.
If they come out, this dear lady will be forced to leave her home.
While she is 80, you wouldn't know it by her activity and energy level.
She has been trying to cut down small trees in her yard not to mention some other heavy work that would tire about someone half her age.
Once her home is fixed, I am certain she will live there for many years to come...hopefully until the end of her days.
We have about $3300 left to raise.
Would you please consider helping out and then sharing, as often as you can?
