Help me from becoming homeless
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Martti Peeples and I work in the surgerical medical field. I've been an essential worker for the past 18 years and a traveler in this field for the past 8 years.
I've also been heavily involved with those less fortunate. I started an online group called Warming Up Detroit 10 years ago. I was raised with, "To whom much is given, much is required."
Overcoming a state of homelessness
as a child prepared me for later in my adult life returning to help homeless people, families facing food insecurities and our veterans.
I was featured on the Barbara Dean Franklin show in 2014; here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxiPdMnvcgI. If this link doesn't work, you can find it by typing in the Barbara Dean Franklin Show January 2014. In this interview, you'll find out how I came from homelessness as a child to be able to return to help those in need. I am also a writer for Thrive Detroit Street Newspaper, and you can read my article "Coming Full Circle" here.
I have been blessed to be a blessing to others, and now I am in need of people being a blessing to me.
I recently have become unemployed, which has cast me into a deep financial hardship. I have been robbing Peter to pay Paul, and as some friends and family have aided me, their aid has placed a slow tourniquet on an unimaginable bleed. I'm sure I will gain employment again, but it has been complicated because as a traveler in the medical field, I have to pay for a place to stay in the host city as well as pay for my permanent housing.
My employment agency sent a letter to my housing in my host state to be let out of the lease, but they will only do it with a 60-day notice and fees, which I cannot meet. I must pay 2 months' rent and pay the utilities, which is a huge burden. In the travel business, I received stipends for housing and meals along with a base rate usually of minimum wage. So as I applied for unemployment, I am only granted $304 bi-weekly. I do not receive these benefits as I try to do as much per diem work. So I make over the allowed $75 per week by UIA, but my per diems have only been $200 per day, and I have only found 4 daily assignments.
I've lost my medical coverage as well. My monthly expenses total $7000 per month for paying for double rents, utilities, car note, and insurance, as well as buying groceries. I'm trying to pay bills for the current month and next month to cushion me as I seek employment. Any help you may provide is greatly appreciated. It was very hard for me to make an appeal to strangers because I am so used to helping those in need.
I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
Respectfully,
Martti C. Peeples
