Help a Queer African Trampled Upon by FHI360
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Joel Smart.
I am doing this fundraiser for Dominic Bropleh (name changed to protect his identity.) Bropleh, 32, is a gay man in Liberia whose health status of being HIV positive was outed by FHI360 when he signed up to do awareness on preventing HIV, according to journalRAGE.
The news outlet says the global health company, which is worth $800m, promised to show the young man how the wording or messaging that would be used for the campaign to ensure he was comfortable.
But they never did.
Now, he's been thrown out by his family as they are blaming his sexuality for the contraction of the virus.
This is a very sad situation. Very often these global companies and organizations go to Africa and take advantage of our people. They exploit them for whatever purpose. And because our people are so poor, trying to eke a living, they know not how to fight back.
FHI does not care as long as they are getting millions in contracts from the American government. But we'll see the likes of them during Pride Month jumping on the bandwagon of supporting the rights of the queer community.
Bropleh does not have the money or resources to mount up a fight against a global organization like FHI.
But with your donations, he sure can relocate to safety as he reportedly is stopping with friends. Please donate whatever it is you can to help our queer African brother.
