My name is Murtaza, and I live in the Bryan/College Station area in Texas. I’m a PhD student whose only income is a stipend, and I’m raising funds for a modest, reliable used car.
Transportation is one of my biggest concerns in life. I live here with my wife and we rely on patchwork solutions, including asking others for rides, using rideshare apps, which can be expensive, and limited public or shared transportation.
Most of the savings I had have already gone toward necessary medical care for myself and helping pay for my father’s cancer treatment back home.
Based on the basic prices of lower-end used cars in the Bryan/College Station area, plus unavoidable fees and initial maintenance, I’ve set a realistic target of 10,000 USD.
Here's how the 10,000 USD goal breaks down:
- 8,000–9,000 USD: Purchase price of a basic, reliable used sedan or compact car in the “budget” range of the local market
- 800–1,200 USD: Taxes, title, registration, and associated fees
- 300–500 USD: Initial maintenance and safety needs (oil change, fluids, basic repairs, and getting the car road-ready)
If I am able to find a car for less than expected, or if there is any money left after the purchase and fees, I will use the remaining funds to cover future maintenance and insurance.
If you’re able to support this goal, here are a few ways you can help:
- Donate any amount.
- Share this campaign: Sharing with friends, family, social media, or community groups can help this reach people who may be able to give.
Please help only if you are able to. Thank you for your time.
