In 2022, my wife, three kids, and I were filled with excitement as we embarked on a new assignment in Washington. As an active duty military member with 12 years of service, I’ve made numerous sacrifices for this country, and my family has stood by me through it all, making sacrifices of their own. Finally, we found a home that fit our budget and dreams, and we were excited we all would be in one place for 4 years.
However, just weeks after closing, we discovered major undisclosed water damage lurking beneath the surface. Despite our efforts to resolve the issue through insurance (Nothing can be done with them due to policies and it being a previous issue) and a lengthy legal battle, we learned through several contractors that the repair costs would amount to a staggering $210,000 and they will not work on it unless we have the money. Although we won our case against the previous owner to make up the cost, the reality has sunk in that these damages most likely will never be covered due to the previous owners actions, even after spending more of our own money to hold the previous owner accountable (He took off after being served and has not been found).
For the past two years, I’ve been navigating this situation, pouring our resources and time into the lawsuit and other agencies with no financial return or results. We are now down to one bathroom and mostly living in a camper on our property due to serious issues in the house like the flooring caving in over half of the house and mold growth. As time goes by, its getting worse as we cant have the kids around that area. This increased cost of living for us, which is difficult on a single fixed income. Now we have twins on the way that are due in June and our set up is not feasable. We woukd not be able to have them in the house and our camper is not big enough to accommodate. Unfortunately, refinancing isn’t an option as the loan hasn’t been paid down enough, and getting a loan for repairs isn’t feasible either as we can not get no where near what we need to fix it.
The demands of this situation have been especially challenging as my wife faces health issues which she can not drive now. With the house issue, we cannot move closer to medical treatment needed due to being unable to afford two places to live, which further complicates our family's needs. The pressure is mounting as my military tour is set to end in a year, and if we can't raise the necessary funds, foreclosure will be our only option. This would make moving even more difficult and put us further into debt.
I’m reaching out today, humbly asking for your support to help alleviate this burden that weighs heavy on my family. Your donations will go directly towards fixing our home, allowing us to focus on health and stability and a definite move.
I’ve never asked for help like this before, but as a father and husband, I want nothing more than to provide a safe and secure environment for my loved ones. The hardships I’ve had to watch them go through because of this situation cannot be expressed in words, especially when they refer to the house they live in as "the broken house." All I want is to get them out of this situation so they can have the stability they deserve. Any amount you can contribute would mean the world to us. The funds will go to the contractors who will have to rip out all the flooring in the house, main wall, support beam that is impacted, removing entire bathroom, a/c unit, and replacing everything damaged.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and support during this challenging time.
