Help a Healthcare Hero, COVID Victim

My name is Karen and I’m hoping to raise funds for my dear friend Virginia, a single mom and healthcare hero who contracted COVID-19. She put her life on the line for others. As a result,  she is financially losing hers. 

I thought Virginia’s nightmare was over after  her 2 month struggle of fighting the COVID- induced pneumonia but I was wrong. Virginia has still not been paid her workman’s compensation for being infected on the job as an LPN at the VA Hospital in Lyons NJ  where she has worked for 42 years. She was out of work from April 8th until May 23rd. The bills and late fees are piling up to the point that they repossessed her car! Now she is petrified of losing her home! On top of all that, her daughter had planned on attending college in the fall, but now her dreams are on hold.

Prior to contracting the coronavirus, Virginia worked 3 jobs trying to make ends meet and provide for her daughter Zoie. Now, just working the one job at the VA takes all she has. She has shooting pains inher arms and especially her legs, and is still feeling exhausted.

I remember the week before she was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance due to low oxygen levels, she called me and confided in me that she was scared to go to work. It scared her how she couldn’t do enough to help these poor vets drowning in their own mucous. It scared her that she didn’t have proper PPE’s. It scared her that she was a single mom and what would happen to Zoie if she died.  But she went to work anyway.  She put her patient’s needs ahead of her own.
