Dear friends:
Mike Boughn and Kent Johnson have started this emergency fund appeal for the poet James Cook, who faces the possibility of imminent homelessness on January 1, 2021, two months away--only shortly after he relocated to a new town in NY state. See below description of his pressing circumstances. James is an immensely gifted outsider poet in the visionary traditions of Robin Blaser, Alice Notley, Gerrit Lansing, and Robert Kelly (James's first book is forthcoming from the legendary Station Hill Press) . We are asking that fellow poets and friends make a small contribution so that he can cover his basic needs for the coming difficult months, and so that he can be sure to avoid losing his new apartment--in the middle of winter and when the pandemic is projected to be at its peak. In order for James to avoid eviction in 2021, we want to raise $1000 by the end of October. Our emergency goal, over the next two months, is $3000.

He lost his job after New York State’s Covid-19 quarantine protocol when the thrift store he worked for was forced to cut staff. He has continued to write, while at the same time seeking a full-time job and attempting to care for an elderly family member, but is struggling to pay rent and other necessary bills.
