Help a fallen officer's family

Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati had served as a federal Correctional Officer for more than 10 years when his life was suddenly and senselessly taken from him on February 26, 2013.  According to the FBI , he was murdered as a direct result of his work at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.  Lieutenant Albarati was a member of BOP’s Special Investigations Section and he had consistently found and seized contraband cell phones from inmates at the prison.  In retaliation for doing his job, inmates plotted a murder for hire using a contraband cell phone from inside the prison to contact a hired gunman who carried out the murder as Lieutenant Albarati drove home to his wife and children.

When Lt. Albarati was killed, his family not only lost their husband and father, they lost their primary means of income and support.  Osvaldo Albarati, Jr. is getting married on October 6, 2018, and one of his sisters is graduating from high school next spring.  We are setting up a small fund to help pay for Osvaldo Jr.’s wedding, and help his sister when she graduates.  Osvaldo won’t get to watch his only son get married, or watch his daughter walk across the stage and get her diploma, but please make a donation in any amount you can to help his children celebrate these momentous occasions in their lives. 

Before joining the Bureau of Prisons in 2002 as a Correctional Officer at MDC Guaynabo, Lieutenant Albarati was a Puerto Rico police officer.  Lieutenant Albarati earned MDC Guaynabo’s Correctional Officer of the Year award in 2011, and in June 2012, he was promoted to Lieutenant.  Osvaldo was a dedicated public servant and an exemplary law enforcement officer.  He gave his life for performing a vital public service, and we ask that you give in any amount that you’re able to help his family.
