Help a domestic violence victim get on her feet
Sarah ran away from an abusive home and found herself living in another state. Soon she ended up in a relationship where some of her needs were finally being met for the first time in a long time.
Sadly, her partner's initial care for her was just to draw her in—her partner soon began to abuse her emotionally, physically, and sexually. Faced with the prospect of fending for herself on the street, returning to another abusive situation, or putting up with the abuse to survive, she decided it was best to survive however she could.
Then she found herself pregnant.
The abuse continued throughout her pregnancy and after her child was born. Sarah pondered leaving, but her partner had forced her to burn bridges when she came to live with them. Nonetheless, she was able to reach out to some old friends and ask for their help.
Sarah is away from her ex now, with her child. While the legal system handles her case, she needs help to get on her feet financially. Since her partner stole what money she had as well as her car, she is relying on kindness and donations to feed her baby and herself, access safe housing and transportation, get the counseling she needs, and go back to school.
Our goal is $2000 to cover basic expenses, and if we meet this goal we will increase it as necessary to get Sarah on her feet. Anything left over will be saved for a rainy day for Sarah and her baby.
UPDATE JUNE 2019: A friend has generously offered Sarah her used car. However, the donor is not able to afford the registration and transfer fees on her own, nor is Sarah, so she needs some help getting the money for that. A car will help her tremendously when it comes to getting jobs and childcare.
