<div>At 86 years old, after two open-heart surgeries and double knee replacement surgeries, my father still works physically demanding construction jobs because his family, including his disabled adult children, depends on him.

<div>Now, the work van he relies on has suffered a major transmission failure, leaving him unable to accept jobs or haul the tools and materials he needs to work.

<div>My sister was born with significant intellectual disabilities and other lifelong medical conditions. She requires constant supervision, assistance with daily living, diapers, and, in recent years, dialysis several days each week.

<div>I, too, have limitations, but I do everything I can to help care for my sister and contribute to our household. I recently tried to obtain a loan to help purchase another work van, but I was unsuccessful, and we don’t have the funds for a down payment.

<div>Repair estimates for the van were more than the vehicle is worth, making replacement the only practical option. Without a dependable van, my father cannot pull his trailer, transport his tools, or accept construction jobs. The van would also serve as our family’s only reliable transportation for work, medical appointments, dialysis treatments, and everyday needs.

<div>One thing that has always amazed me about my dad is his faith. Every morning and every night, I see him praying…not for himself, but for other people. He keeps a list of prayer requests and faithfully prays for friends, family, and even people he has never met. Last Sunday, he couldn’t even drive to church because his van can’t go in reverse.

<div>Writing this is difficult. My father has always been the kind of man who would rather work than ask for help. Accepting help has never come easily to him. But after a lifetime of providing for others, we’re hoping that others might now be willing to help him continue providing for his family.
