Help 4 month Leonidas Boyne beat cancer!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Amanda Krans and I am fundraising on behalf of my nephew, Leonidas Boyne, and his parents, Chris and Chelsea Boyne.

During a wellness visit, Leo's doctor noticed a hard lump on his abdomen. After an ultrasound and CT, Leo was sent to Children's Hospital in Aurora, Co on December 23rd. On Christmas Eve, Leo underwent surgery to get a biopsy of the mass and bone marrow. The hospital has determined that the mass was neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer often found in the small glands on top of the kidneys (adrenal glands). It can develop in the belly, chest, neck, pelvis, and bones. Children ages five or younger are most commonly affected.

As of right now, the doctors have identified a large mass in his abdomen and several masses on his liver. Leo has another scan scheduled on January 6th to see if the cancer has spread to other parts of his little body, but they did find some in his bone marrow biopsy. Depending on spread and severity, the treatment is estimated to take 9 months to 2 years to complete with chemo and a possibility of radiation and bone marrow transplant.

The large mass has been putting pressure on his heart, kidneys, and lungs, making it necessary to keep Leo in the hospital since before Christmas. He has had a blood transfusion, done his first round of chemo and spent a couple days in the PICU. It is unsure when he will be able to go home, but we are hopeful that his situation will stabilize and he can be discharged and continue treatment as an outpatient.

With this long hospital stay and an estimated long treatment period, the Boynes are racking up significant medical bills. In addition to little Leo, they have two older daughters (ages 7 and 4) and Chelsea is a stay at home mom, so money was already tight before Leo was hospitalized. Along with emotional support, we created this page to help give them as much financial support for this very expensive diagnosis. They do have insurance, but it only covers a portion of the costs. Just one hour of chemo after insurance is $300/hour and he had had 5 hours of this treatment so far with many to come. This is just the medication and doesn't include all of the testing, surgery, hospital stay and other medications he has received so far, so any help they can get is very welcome!
