<div>Met veel liefde starten we deze actie voor 35 kinderen uit het kindertehuis St. Yakobus in Surabaya (Indonesië). Zij groeien op met heel weinig middelen, vanuit de overheid ontvangen ze geen enkele financiele bijdrage. Het kindertehuis is volledig afhankelijk van giften.

<div>Met jouw bijdrage willen we 20 nieuwe schooluniformen en 20 pakketten schoolboeken financieren, zodat ieder kind naar school kan en gelijke kansen heeft.

<div>Tijdens mijn vele reizen door Indonesië, waar ook mijn roots liggen, zag ik ook de andere kant: diepe armoede, kwetsbaarheid en beperkte kansen voor de mensen. Het verschil tussen arm en rijk is immens. Het ligt er dan ook aan waar je wiegje staat. Vooral kinderen worden hierdoor geraakt. Zo kwam ik bij het kindertehuis St. Yakobus in Surabaya. Een plek gerund door de zusters van TMM (Tarekat Maria Mediatrix), die met minimale middelen zorgen voor kinderen uit Java, Sulawesi, de Molukken, Papua en Oost-Indonesië. Veel van hen hebben te maken gehad met verlies, onveiligheid of ouders die helaas niet meer voor hen kunnen zorgen. De zusters geven alles wat ze hebben, maar één groot terugkerend probleem is:

<div>Niet ieder kind heeft de basis om naar school te gaan: een uniform, schooltas, schoenen en boven alles boeken.

<div>With great love, we are launching this initiative for 35 children from the St. Yakobus orphanage in Surabaya (Indonesia). They grow up with very limited resources, and receive no financial support from the government at all. The orphanage depends entirely on donations.

<div>During my many travels through Indonesia, where my roots also lie, I have seen the other side: deep poverty, vulnerability, and limited opportunities. The gap between rich and poor is immense. Where you are born determines so much. Children are the ones affected most. This is how I came across the St. Yakobus orphanage in Surabaya. A place run by the sisters of TMM (Tarekat Maria Mediatrix), who care for children from Java, Sulawesi, the Moluccas, Papua, and Eastern Indonesia with minimal resources. Many of these children have experienced loss, unsafe situations, or parents who can no longer take care of them. The sisters give everything they have, but one major recurring challenge remains: Not every child has the basic essentials needed to go to school: a uniform, a school bag, shoes, and most importantly books.
